Coming Up Next…

Whilst I’m getting to grips with my new blogging project, I thought I would give you a sneak peak at my next project – Filofaxes!

A few months ago I was extremely surprised to learn that Filofaxes are no longer what they might seem. There are some serious Filofax devotees out there with their own blogs, You Tube videos, meet-ups and everything. You wouldn’t think that there would be much to get excited about – it’s just a glorified diary after all, or that’s what I thought!

Filofaxes are now customised, they are personalised, they have systems, they are creative, they contain things like dashboards and master lists, photos and stickers, I could go on and on. Once I poked my nose into this new strange world I ended up being drawn in and utterly mesmerised. After watching my 10th You Tube video on yet another Filofax-obsessive showcasing their own customised Filofax I was in, and I knew that I would not settle until I had done it for myself.

This is not a cheap hobby let me tell you, these people spend some serious money. I was fortunate enough to have a birthday coming up so I requested my very own Filofax, ¬†pictured right. I love it and I can’t wait to get going. In the meantime, if you want some inspiration visit Imy’s World, this girl is serious about her Filofaxes and she even has her own ‘Filofax College’!

Remember to look out for my next blogging project posts which will be coming soon.

The Blogging Bug – Project #1

My first journey into writing about my project obsession has to start with blogging. Even though this blog is a means to document my journey through ‘project world’, it is actually a project in itself!

Now I’m not going to go into a detailed account on the whys and wherefores of blogging, you already know that stuff don’t you? Well if you don’t then I’m sure there’s a blog about it somewhere! You can also find blogs out there dedicated to showing you how to set up a blog (your blog host site is a good source of how-to information).

I’m a ‘jump right in’ kind of person. I like to learn as I go, I think it’s better that way because I learn better if I am actually doing something rather than just reading about it. So I have my blog, I have made it my first project, so now what?

Inspiration is the key ingredient to any project if it ever has a chance of getting off the ground. It’s the fuel that keeps the engine running, and it has to be constantly added or it will die. Thankfully there are some wonderful people out there who have decided that they will help you by providing inspiration for your blog. Whether you are a weekly, daily, or once in a blue moon blogger, you can have the inspiration you need to bring you out of the scourge of writer’s block. I am going to recommend some good sources in a minute. Essentially they give you a topic, or a question, or simply one word, and you use that as your inspiration to write. You may not have set out to write a literary blog, you may not even think that you are a writer, but until you can get past the obstacle of ‘what the heck do I write about?’, this is where you must start.

The benefits of using an inspiration tool are many, but here’s a few:

  1. They get you into the habit of writing on a regular basis.
  2. They eliminate writer’s block.
  3. They exercise your writing muscle – if you want to produce a blog on tractors, but don’t have any writing experience, you need to learn how to put across what you want to say in an interesting way (and I’m not saying that tractors can’t be interesting…)
  4. You can usually join together with a group of other bloggers who are following the same inspiration project – instant networking for when your ‘real’ blog comes into fruition!

The Challenge

Since this week’s project will be an ongoing ‘background’ project, I am going to set myself 2 challenges. I will be following 2 different inspiration blogs and using their prompts each week to write a post.

My first port of call and source of inspiration will come from Sunday Scribblings. Each Saturday they post a new writing prompt, you publish your post on Sunday, and provided you have added your blog address to their list, your post may be chosen to feature on their site. Cool eh?

My second tool comes from Plinky. I love the idea behind this, and I am eager to see if it works. Basically, after registering your blog with their site, you can answer short questions or prompts. The answer not only goes on their site along with the answers of other users, but it also posts directly to your blog. This is good if you haven’t got much time to spare but still want to post something to your blog.

You will find how I am getting on with these by clicking on the Blog Project link in the menu. I will of course be giving you general updates in my regular posts on how I am enjoying/not enjoying this new project.

Are you inspired enough to do this with me? Come on, you know you want to! Let me know in the comments, or leave a word of encouragement for me. I think I’m going to need it…
